In this guide, we’ll outline all the steps involved in cleaning your Frenchies ears and how you can ensure you’re doing it properly.

How to Clean a French Bulldog’s Ears: Safely and Carefully

First and foremost, you’ll want to get an antiseptic ear cleaning spray to clean your French Bulldog’s ears. You can’t just use any soap and water won’t kill any bacteria that is developing.

You can take a little of the spray and put it on a baby wipe or something similar. Put a few drops in their ears and massive around the outside of their ears to ensure that spray is working around inside.

Don’t put any objects inside the ears like q-tips or cotton balls. You can use them to clean around the outside but you never want to insert them into your Frenchies ears.

How Often to Clean French Bulldog Ears

Ear cleaning is important like everything else you do to care for your French Bulldog. You want to clean your French Bulldogs ears once or twice per month depending on your individual dog. Some French Bulldogs are more prone to wax buildup that can lead to infection.

If you feel like your French Bulldog’s ears are abnormally dirty or smelly, you may want to get him or her checked out by a vet.

Why Do I Need to Clean French Bulldog Ears?

French Bulldogs are exposed to everything when they run around and play. This includes dirt, dust, algae, pollen, bugs, grass, mud, and more. All of these things can get inside your French Bulldog’s ears.

This becomes a major red flag for French Bulldogs because they are known for having a weak immune system. If bacteria is getting inside your Frenchie’s ears, it means they have a higher chance of getting an infection.

Cleaning their ears on a regular basis will ensure that whatever gets into their system doesn’t become a major problem.

Why Do French Bulldog Ears Smell?

One indicator that may tell you it’s time to clean your dog’s ears is if you notice an unpleasant smell coming from them. This is the smell of a yeast infection and it’s a major sign of an infection.

Don’t panic.

It may not be yeast and could simply be something smelly they got into outside. Either way, it means you need to clean your Frenchies’ big ears and get all the gunk out. If this is a recurring issue, it could be a sign of something more serious and you’ll want to get them checked out.

Final Thoughts

Hygiene is important across the board. Cleaning your French Bulldog’s ears is a lot more important than you think and it can help prevent more significant issues from occurring down the road.
